Sandakphu – Phalut Trek | Singalila Ridge Trek | West Bengal


This is a teahouse trek and accommodation available at all location. Expect rush in April – May but even then its is easy to find a place to sleep.

This is an easy trek if you do in 7 days from Manebhanjyang – Tonglu – Kalepokhare – Sandakphu – Sabagram – Phalut – Samanden – Srikhola. Doing it in 4 days is also possible but days will be long and the trek will be tough due to long walks. (Caution: Weather can kill particulerly in Sandakphu – Phalut section which does not have any shelter and water source is also not there except Sabagram)

Winter months have snow but best views of mountainsSpring is best for rhododendron and long day and warm weather.

A guide is mandatory in the trail. Reach Manebhanjyang before 2 PM to get a guide and start the trek on same day.

Reaching Manebhanjyang: No direct shared taxi is available from NJP Station or Bagdogra Airport or Siliguri Bus Stop (Tenjing Norgey Bus Stop). Take a auto to Tenjing Norgey Bus Stop from NJP Station or Bagdogra Airport. From here take a shared taxi going to Darjeeling. Get down  at Ghoom Station. From here (front of Central Bank of India just opposite to station) get a shared taxi to Sukhiappokhare also called Sukhia. From here take a shared taxi going to Manebhanjyang.

There are ATM at Sukhia and fill up the cash for the trek here.

Leaving Rimbik: The last shared taxi leave at 12:30 PM everyday from Rimbik for Darjeeling. Hence reach accordingly at the end of the trek.

Markha Valley Trek | Markha – Kongmaru La Trek | Jammu and Kashmir


The most popular trek in Ladakh is Markha Valley Trek. The season is Early June to Mid October. Expect to get the Parachute tent in Nimaling in July/Augustwhich is peak season. This trek can be done without a guide and without tent or sleeping bags in July/August.

Route 1: Chilling – Skiu – Markha – Hankar – Thochuntse – Nimaling – Shang Sumdo

Route 2: Spitok – Zinchen – Rumbak – Gandala – Shingo – Skiu – Markha – Hankar – Thochuntse – Nimaling – Shang Sumdo

Homestay accommodation at all places except Nimaling, Thochuntse, and Gandala base. Almost all villages have electricity (erratic) and satellite phones.

Distances and Time:

Spitok to Zinchen : 15 km (5 hours) Drivable road. Easy

Zinchen to Ganda La Base: 14 km (6 hrs) Moderate

Ganda La Base to Skiu: 24 kms (8 hrs) Difficult

Chilling to Skiu: 6 kms ( 2hrs) Easy

Skiu to Markha: 20 kms (7 hrs) Moderate

Markha to Thochuntse: 13 kms (5 hrs) Moderate

Thochuntse to Nimaling: 7 kms (3 hrs) Difficult

Nimaling to Shang Sumdo: 19 kms ( 7 hrs) Difficult

Cost: In 2016 all  homestays charge Rs 1000 per person per night. This includes unlimited tea, dinner, breakfast and packed lunch.  The parachute tent at Nimaling charge Rs 1200 for the same.
